Amber believes that everyone is entitled to live in an environment that’s healthy, clean and safe. Lessons from Superstorm Sandy have taught us the importance of making our built-environment more resilient and sustainable. As a waterfront community, there is a dual challenge of developing immediate effective flood-protection measures while also preparing for global sea level rise. Amber will advocate for policies, programs and projects that will enhance and protect our natural environment—our beaches, parks, green-spaces and open spaces—while fortifying our built environment, protecting and rebuilding properties and vital infrastructure.
Our coastal district is uniquely threatened by climate change. As your next City Council member, Amber will push forward at an accelerated pace to update and implement protective infrastructures such as drains and seawalls combined with strategic dredging (as needed) and sandbars. Amber and her team will organize an inter-district system to make sure that environmentally related repairs are completed in a timely manner. This means spearheading initiatives and projects, as well as making sure that the correct agency or department completes their responsibilities in a timely manner.
To help reduce air-pollution, Amber supports expanding green spaces, adding rooftop gardens where the potential exists and incentivizing building owners to add trees and greenery to the many existing concrete courtyards. Incentivized plant choices are to reflect the immediate goal of maximizing air quality.
